Hoover wins Mt. Carmel Invitational

The quiz bowl team from Hoover High School traveled all the way from Alabama and came out on top, going 8-0 to win the Mount Carmel Invitational, which featured a field of 24 teams from 15 different schools. The morning preliminary rounds saw Hoover, Jesuit A, St. Martin’s, and Episcopal School of Acadiana A go undefeated in their groups to advance to the championship round-robin bracket. Hoover won all three of their afternoon matches to claim the title. St. Martin’s took home the runner-up trophy.

Individual trophies were presented to the top four scorers in the preliminary rounds. Taking first place was St. Martin’s Bryce Monier, who averaged an astonishing 154 points per game in the preliminary matches. Also receiving trophies were Sam Hebert from ESA (2nd), Caleb Rogers from Jesuit (3rd), and Elizabeth Hogan from Lusher (4th).

Hoover relied on a well-balanced team to win. Their team members were Rishik Hombal, Andy Kong, Sophia Liu, Anna Muthalaly, and Addison Rees. Their average margin of victory in all games was an impressive 344 points.
