NAQT’s High School National Championship Tournament was held on Memorial Day weekend at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas, Texas. The 272-team tournament is high school quizbowl’s largest championship tournament and is one of two major national championship tournaments on the season, the other being the PACE National Scholastic Championship. Baton Rouge Magnet finished 6-4 in Saturday’s preliminary rounds, qualifying for the 102-team playoff bracket. They were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs, finishing tied for 77th place. Members of Baton Rouge Magnet’s team include Stefan D’Sa, Kade Kieschnick, Leo Ray, and Mason Guillot. Their performance can be found at this link. They are the first team from Louisiana to make the playoffs of this prestigious tournament.
University Lab School also participated in the event, finishing just outside the top 200 with a record of 4-6 (several thousand high school quizbowl teams are active during the season). Wesley Swain finished 23rd in scoring out of 1308 students. The team consists of Wesley Swain, Marie Swain, Colin Raby, Jonathan Francis, and Anne Marie Gladney. Their performance can be found here.
