Lake Castle had an impressive performance, with its teams finishing first in both the junior division (6th grade and below) and senior division (8th grade and below) of the 2015 Carmel Knowledge Bowl, a middle school tournament hosted by Mt. Carmel Academy in New Orleans.
In the senior division, 20 teams competed. After three preliminary rounds, the top 8 teams advanced to a single-elimination playoff. Lake Castle defeated St. Mary Magdalen and Lusher B to reach the finals. In the finals, they defeated Holy Cross A 300-115. Holy Cross A finished the day with a 5-1 record. Lusher A defeated Lusher B in the 3rd-place game.
In the junior division, 8 teams competed, with the top four in a playoff round-robin. Three teams (Lake Castle, Holy Name C, and Immaculate Conception B) had 2-1 records in the playoff, but Lake Castle’s junior team won first place based on their better performance in the preliminary rounds.
Trophies were awarded to the top four individual scorers based on results after the first three rounds. After the completion of all six rounds, the top scorers were St. Philip Neri’s Anna Catherine Nussbaum (71.67 points per game), St. Dominic’s Catherine Bickerton (70.83 PPG), and Holy Name’s Kaleb Lambert (65 PPG).
