This past weekend, Lusher Charter School competed at NAQT’s High School National Championship Tournament (HSNCT). Lusher finished the weekend with a 5-5 record, averaging 178.7 points per game and 13.66 points per bonus. The New Orleans school notched victories against teams from Minnesota, Illinois, Alabama, California, and North Carolina thanks to a total of 14 powers from the Lusher squad.
Lusher brought 8 students to the competition with each student receiving a different amount of playing time. Senior star Diana Kissokson played every question of all 10 games, a total of 216 tossups. Kissokson nabbed 8 powers along with 31 other tossups for an average of 37.96 points per game. Junior Cameron Cinel followed Kissokson with a strong performance of 20.77 points per game. Keely Mizell, Christian McLain, Troy Privott, Alfred Joseph, Cheyenne Kametani-Rider, and Isabelle Donahue also played for Lusher.
With this performance, Lusher Charter becomes the first Louisiana school since 2011 Lafayette High to compete at HSNCT.
