Caddo Magnet High (23.08 P/B) went 8-0 on Saturday to claim 1st place at the first Louisiana Tech Winter Tournament. Led by junior Vincent Huang, Caddo swept the preliminary round robin before defeating River Oaks (19.61 P/B) in an advantaged final. Despite Huang’s strong performances throughout the tournament, it was a team effort that brought Caddo the victory. In the final match against River Oaks, senior Alex Gras led Caddo with 50 points, followed by Huang with 45, and senior Yale Rosen with 40. Senior Jacob Phagan also scored 20 points in the 425-205 victory.
Top individual scorer and junior Ben Zollinger led River Oaks to a 6-0 start in the preliminary rounds before the 55-point loss to Caddo Magnet in game 7 to set up the final. The senior-less River Oaks team benefited from strong performances from juniors Tommy Johnson, Cole DeWitt, Zaib Qayyum, Shaji Ul-Islam, and sophomore Thomas Causey.
West Monroe (18.75 P/B) finished 5-2 to claim 3rd place with seniors Anna Sit, Jeb Houston, and Skylar Winters, juniors Faith Maxwell and Josh Osborne, and sophomore Christian White. Sit scored 40 PPG to lead the team, with 30 PPG each from Houston and Osborne.
Ben Zollinger led all players with 86.25 PPG, followed by Vincent Huang’s 20-power, 80 PPG performance. Riverdale A’s Jed Bethea took home the 3rd place individual award with 40.77 PPG.
